The unique two-year Flood Risk Master programme integrates science, engineering and socioeconomic topics through a range of courses taught by leading experts at four European universities: TU Dresden (Germany), IHE Delft (Netherlands), Technical University of Catalonia (Spain) and University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). Successful students graduate with MSc degrees from IHE Delft, TU Dresden,UPC Barcelona and University of Ljubljana.

Benefits

What do EMJM scholarships include?

  • the students' participation costs (including the tuition fees, library and laboratory costs, full insurance coverage and any other mandatory costs related to the students' participation in the master programme);
  • a monthly allowance for the entire duration of the EMJM study programme of 1400 EURO per month, which covers monthly subsistence allowance, accommodation, travel and installation cost for the entire duration of the EMJM study programme (up to 24 months maximum).
  • Students with disabilities may receive a contribution to individual needs up to a certain maximum if they fulfil the general eligibility conditions set in the grant agreement.

Besides the EMJM scholarships, there is a limited number of scholarships with reduced tuition fee available.

Requirements

The Flood Risk Management programme has the following admission requirements:

  • ?Proof that you have successfully accomplished*) a first degree of higher education equivalent to a B.Sc. degree (equivalent to 180 credit points according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS))
  • A good final mark as shown by a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least B/B+ (US System) or a classification of at least 2nd upper (UK system).
  • A bachelor or comparable degree in one of the following subjects: civil or environmental engineering, geosciences, environmental sciences, limnology, oceanography, geography, geology or natural resources.
  • Academic knowledge of mathematics and water related subjects is required
  • Evidence of qualification in one of the internationally-recognised English language tests*). More information on the English language requirements can be found here.

Possessing the minimum qualification mentioned above does not guarantee admission. CV and transcripts are used to decide whether the applicant can be admitted to the programme or not.

*)Note

Applications may already be submitted before the first degree of higher education (usually B.Sc.) has been successfully finished, if at least 120 ECTS of the programme have been successfully completed. If the applicant meets all of the other admission requirements, admission can be granted on the condition that the first degree of higher education must be successfully finished no later than August 15 of the year the program starts. Proof of graduation needs to be submitted before August 15 in case a scholarship has been awarded. In case this proof will not be received, a possible scholarship offer will be cancelled.

If you do not have your English test results available before the application deadline of 5 January 2026, you still have the possibility to upload them before 1 February 2026 at the latest. Your application will then still be considered for a scholarship if you have applied for admission before the 5th of January 2026. In this case upload your English test results with your online application, submit your application again and send an e-mail to: [email protected]

Application Documents

  • Certified academic transcript(s)/mark sheets, (if applicable translated in English); including grades obtained and showing the average mark. Explanation on the grading system used, should be part of the transcript or should be attached to it. (Authenticated or certified copies are copies with an official stamp to verify that the copies are true copies of original documents. This official stamp may be from one of the following: a solicitor/notary, the educational institution from where the student gained the diplomas or the local council/local authority/local government office).
  • Curriculum Vitae: including work experience and research record (if any);
  • Motivation: While completing your application, you will be asked to answer 5 motivation questions. Your motivation is an important criterion for selecting you for admission and/or scholarship. Therefore, prepare you motivation questions well in advance. These questions are shown below:
    • Why are you applying for this programme? (max 600 characters with spaces)
    • What are the specific challenges, issues or problems (in your country, region or worldwide) that you would like to address once you have completed this study? (max 1000 characters)
    • How will this programme enable you to address abovementioned challenges, issues or problems? (max 1000 characters)
    • What are your most relevant qualifications and experiences that make you a suitable candidate for this programme? (max 1000 characters)
    • Where do you see yourself 5 years after you have graduated? (max 1000 characters)

     Please use your own words and avoid the use of AI tools such as Chat GPT. For us it is not about how well structured your sentences are, but about getting to know you and your motivation, in particular for this specific programme. We can easily detect writing with AI tools and will deduct points for obvious use. We will also keep the option open to interview candidates in case we have doubts and/or would like further clarification on background and motivation.

  • Two letters of recommendation:(The contact details of the referee should be shown on the recommendation letter), preferably not older than six months either by two university teachers or two employers or by one university teacher and by one employer, or by internationally recognised scientist(s). They should be written by persons who are qualified to evaluate applicant's potential for graduate study. Applicants who work need to ask their current (or recent) employers. Senior academic members of staff working at the institution where you studied or performed academic work also are suitable letter authors.

    • The letters need to include the referees’ title, their relation to the applicant including how long they have worked together. The letters should refer to examples of applicant's work and explain why the referee feels the applicant is a fit for the specific programme.
    • Examples of valid referees or recommenders are:

Managers or mentors in a superior position in the workplace
Faculty, deans, or professors
Academic advisors
Immediate supervisors
Research project managers

Letters older than a year, and letters from family members, close friends, or non-superior colleagues are not accepted.?

IMPORTANT NOTES:

(1) Only PDF, Word/Doc and JPEG files with a maximum file size of 2 MB per file will be accepted.
(2) In case you have not yet obtained your BSc degree, and you are in the last year of your study, please attach a statement of your university confirming that you are in the last year of your BSc study (instead of copy of your BSc diploma) and stating that you are expected to graduate before 15 August. Also attach the transcript showing the subjects you followed and the marks and ECTS obtained so far.
(3) Citizens from certain countries are exempted from taking an English language test (see the admission requirements). Candidates from countries where English is the language of instruction in higher education, but which are not on the list of exempted countries, always need to upload the English language test results.

 If you do not have your English test results available before 5 January 2026, you still have the possibility to upload them before 1st February 2026 at the latest. Your application will then still be considered for a scholarship if the results meet the requirements.

  • Make sure that before you start to apply online, you have collected the documents you need to upload. There is no separate application procedure for Erasmus Mundus scholarships.
  • At the question in the application form, where you have to indicate how you are going to finance your study, you have to select: Erasmus Mundus scholarship. If you have double nationality, the nationality which you fill in in your online application, together with the passport you have uploaded will be leading to categorize you under either partner or programme country scholarship.
