Would you like to play an active role in shaping the future of vehicle development? Then join us in working on innovative methods for the virtual verification and validation of vehicle steering systems in interaction with driver assistance functions and overall vehicle behavior. The steering system has evolved from a classic connecting element between the driver and the road into a highly dynamic actuator - today it is a key component of modern driver assistance systems and automated driving. It also makes a significant contribution to brand characteristics in terms of driving feel, steering precision and safety behavior. Your work focuses on modern simulation approaches such as Model-in-the-Loop (MiL), Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL), which can be used to realistically model and test complex system networks comprising the steering system, vehicle and assistance functions. The aim is to create a methodical foundation in order to be able to evaluate the performance and safety of steering systems at an early stage, efficiently and comprehensibly - even under the influence of the entire vehicle. You will work in an interdisciplinary team at the interface between chassis, driver assistance systems, system simulation and validation. You will combine know-how from vehicle technology, mechatronics, simulation and control engineering with modern approaches to safeguarding networked systems. The close collaboration with specialist departments, test benches and software platforms offers an exciting and practical research environment with a direct link to industrial applications.
Possible Tasks within this Role
The final doctoral topic is defined together with the professor. The prerequisite for the cooperation is the confirmation of supervision as well as a confirmed delimitation of topics by the professor of a university or research institution entitled to confer a doctorate.
