Subscribe for Scholarship Alert!

The AMASE – Advanced Materials Science and Engineering programme brings together six universities in Germany, Sweden, France, Spain, Austria and Italy to train graduates in the science and engineering of advanced materials.

The two-year programme combines specialised coursework, international study experience and research leading to a Master of Science degree. Students study at two partner universities, gaining exposure to different research environments and teaching languages while developing expertise in materials science and engineering.

Full and partial Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available for the 2027/2028 intake.

Benefits

  • Full Funding:
    • Monthly allowance: This full scholarship does not grant additional funding allocated for visa, accommodation, or travel; however, the monthly allowance is meant to cover all these costs as well.
    • Participation costs (tuition fee) for a total of 4 semesters. During the regular study period of 2 years, these costs are covered by the Erasmus Mundus scholarship and will be directly transferred to the coordinators. The students must cover the participation costs for all additional semesters themselves: for “EU-students” students = 1.500 € per semester, for “Non-EU” students = 4.500 € per semester. Also see details about definitions here.
    • Health insurance: The coordinating institution purchases health insurance for scholarship holders which covers them in all EU countries and is valid only during the regular study time of 4 semesters.
  • Partial Funding: The partial scholarship is a tuition fee waiver. This means that students don’t receive a monthy allowance as in the full scholarship, however students get the tuition fees (participation costs) fully covered for the regular study time of 4 semesters.

Requirements

  • Study records
The AMASE programme is built on excellence. Candidates with exceptional academic achievements are particularly sought after. The programme is particularly attractive for students with outstanding results in subject areas relevant to materials science and engineering (e.g. material science, physics, etc.). Additionally, around 15% of your academic records should include courses related to mathematics. At the end of the day, all applications will be considered, no matter the academic results.
  • Previous studies in Materials Science
Students should have previous study experience in areas relevant to Materials Science and Engineering. The general ranking goes as follows (examples):
    • Materials Science, Materials Engineering
    • Physics, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineer,
    • Electrical, Electronic, Civil Engineering, etc.
With degrees in other areas such as Textile Engineering, Design, Architecture, Computational Science, Informatics, Telecommunications, etc. you will only be accepted in exceptional cases and will not be entitled to scholarships.
  • Motivation
It is also important that you are highly motivated to complete the AMASE programme. You can prove this by a well-written motivation letter on why you want to join the programme (1 page max.).
  • Former work experiences
Experience in research and development at universities and/or in the industry can also be advantageous and should be mentioned in your application. These experiences can be internships, jobs, project work, etc.
  • Language knowledge
Good command of the language of the Entrance University is a precondition for the programme. It is advantageous that you also know the language of the Second University. If this is not the case, you should be willing to learn it even before starting the programme and during the first study year.
  • Language knowledge for Entrance University:
Sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction of the Entrance University (at least a EU- B2 level, see grading of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Only the official language certificates listed on the application requirements will be accepted and evaluated.
  • Language knowledge for Second University:
At least some basic knowledge of the language at the Second University is required. For some universities, you can also apply without any knowledge, but be aware that the courses will be held in the local language. It is therefore advisable to start learning the second language as soon as possible. You will also be required to learn the language of the Second University during the first year of study. At the end of your first year, you must be able to follow the classes in the language of instruction of the Second University.
If you select MUL either as Entrance or Second University, you must provide an English certificate of at least B2 level by the time of your application (or by enrollment at latest).

Application Documents

  1. B.Sc. Diploma or Last Academic Certificate and Transcript of Records:
BSc.- or equivalent in the field of materials science and engineering, physics, chemistry or other materials science or engineering related studies (3 year minimum study period). You can apply even if you will not have finished your studies within our application deadline. In this case, you must submit an official document stating that you are a currently enrolled student and participating in your last year of studies as well as confirming your expected graduation date. The document must be issued through and signed by a representative of the Academic Registrar’s Office, the Examinations Office or equivalent. Signatures from other staff members, such as teachers/professors, will not be accepted. A certificate of enrollment for the semester is not enough proof and won’t be accepted either. Once accepted into the programe, the official degree certificate must be submitted before enrollment at the Entrance University or before starting the first semester at the latest.
  2. Curriculum Vitae and Statement of Purpose (motivation letter): Document in PDF form and in English, no longer than one page each.
  3. Scan of valid Passport
  4. Language Certificate(s):
Proof of sufficient knowledge of the teaching language of the Entrance University is a requirement for applying. It is an advantage if you have also (at least some) knowledge of the language of the second university. In any case, we recommend to upload certificates of all languages that you know.
  5. Two letters of recommendation:
On the online pre-registration form candidates must name two referees who are willing to provide academic and/or professional references in form of recommedation letters in English and PDF (make sure to double-check that the e-mails work and are correctly written). The references will be contacted directly through the application system.

Translation of Academic Documents: All academic documents (Degree and TOR) can be uploaded in any language of the consortium, which are English, Spanish, French, Italian and German. Academic documents in any other language must be legally (sworn) translated into English (or the language of the Entrance University).
