The International Office at Trier University is able to provide financial support for students using sponsorship funds from the German Academic Exchange Service and the Scholarship Foundation for International Students and Young Academics for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The primary aim of this financial support is to enable qualified international students to concentrate of their degree and final dissertation. Any international student in need of financial support can apply, as long as their previously achieved grades are very good and they are in the final stage of their degree.

Benefits
- up to 350 Euros per month for students in Bachelor’s programmes
- up to 400 Euros per month for students in Magister, Master’s, Diploma, or State Exam degree programmes
- up to 450 Euros per month for PhD students
Scholarship period:
- Period of support: maximum 6 months (starting in September 2025)
- The period of support is usually not extended.
- The scholarship holder can be in the final stages of their Bachelor’s, Master’s or doctoral degree.
Requirements
Students who;
- are not of German nationality,
- are enrolled at Trier University in order to acquire a degree qualification,
- need financial support,
- and who, based on their previously achieved grades or the progress of their
- doctoral research, are likely to graduate within a maximum of two semesters.
Applications are NOT accepted from:
Students who;
- are exchange students or short-term students at Trier University
- are enrolled at Trier University only to acquire an academic certificate but not
- a full degree qualification
- are enrolled at Trier University for the purpose of a doctoral research stay
- are of German nationality or who have completed their under-graduate
- studies in Germany
- receive BAföG payments
- are receiving a full stipend or scholarship from the German Academic
- Exchange Service (DAAD) or a similar organisation
- are planning to complete a study programme, work placement or research
- stay abroad during the period of the scholarship
- are in the first term of a one-year Master’s degree programme
Interview Dates and Process
Please note that your application can only be considered if you submit a properly completed application form along with all the required documents The selection of students for scholarship support is done by a committee of representatives of Trier University and Trier Student Services on the basis of the written application documents. The main selection criteria are that the student is likely to complete their qualification within the scholarship period, financial need, and very good grades or the progress of your doctoral research. A properly completed application does not guarantee scholarship support. The applicants are informed in writing about the outcome of the application process by the International Office. We ask applicants to refrain from contacting us in advance.

For Bachelor and Master students:
- Properly completed, printed and signed application form
- Current certificate of enrolment at Trier University
- Evidence of completed modules/courses and exams (students in Magister programmes should provide a table detailing courses, and copies of all certificates)
- Overview of the courses you have completed but do not yet have a certificate for
- If possible: Registration of the topic of your final dissertation or final examination(s)
- Provisional time-table for the completion of your degree (in monthly steps)
- CV with a passport photo
- Evidence of current finances (e.g. pay-slip of your partner)
- Reference from a professor
For PhD students:
- Properly completed, printed and signed application form
- Current certificate of enrolment at Trier University
- Individual statement regarding the progress of the doctoral research (including previously completed parts and remaining tasks)
- Provisional time-table for the completion of your degree (in monthly steps)
- CV with a passport photo
- Reference from your supervisor
- Evidence of current finances (e.g. pay-slip of your partner)
