University of Rostock Doctoral scholarships from the State Graduate Fund MV 2025

The University of Rostock awards, subject to the provision of appropriate funding, scholarships for doctoral preparation in accordance with the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Graduate Funding Act of
November 20, 2008, most recently amended by the First Act Amending the State Graduate Funding Act of April 22, 2023.
To promote young researchers, up to three scholarships from state funds are expected to be awarded to particularly qualified young researchers in the humanities, social sciences, and law, as well as in the fields of mathematics and natural sciences, computer science, engineering, medicine, agricultural sciences, and economics.

Benefits

  • A monthly stipend of €1,500 is awarded.
  • The duration of the funding depends on the current status of the scientific project.
  • (Individual funding period.) The standard funding period is three years. Funding may only be extended by six months in justified exceptional cases.
  • If appropriate conditions are met, a family allowance of €150 per month for each first child and €100 per month for each additional child will be paid.

There is no entitlement to funding benefits.

Requirements

A scholarship to prepare for a doctorate from state funds is available to anyone who:

  1. has completed a university degree that allows admission to a doctorate
  2. demonstrates significantly above-average academic and examination performance* (special qualification),
  3. has been admitted to a doctorate at the University of Rostock and is academically supervised by a professor or university lecturer, and
  4. intends to pursue a scientific project that is expected to make a significant contribution to research.

University of Rostock:

*The following are recognized as above-average academic and examination performance:

  • for applicants from master's, magister, diploma, or teacher training programs,
    • degrees with the grade "very good" or better (i.e., an average grade of 1.5 or better);
  • for applicants with the First State Examination in Law, a minimum grade of 9 points;
  • for applicants to university medicine in the first part of the medical examination - a minimum grade of 1.5

Exclusion from funding:
Funding is excluded if the applicant or scholarship holder

  1. has already obtained a doctorate,
  2. is already receiving or has received funding for the same project from public or private institutions,
  3. is already receiving or has received funding for another doctoral program from public institutions or from
  4. publicly funded private institutions, is enrolled in a training program or in a professional introduction, provided that this training is not interrupted for the purpose and duration of the project. Training includes, in addition to, vocational training, internships, traineeships, and practical training phases, as well as a first or second degree program at a university. Applicants for a scholarship may not be enrolled as students.
  5. is employed, unless the activity is compatible with the funding and is on a minor scale.
