University of Freiburg PhD student / Postdoc for Embedded Systems 2026

The Laboratory for MEMS Applications is seeking an PhD student / Postdoc (m/f/d) for Embedded Systems for environmental sensor.

Your Tasks

  • Conduct research in collaborative projects with scientific and industry partners, and regulatory bodies
  • Design and build temperature driven test rigs for microfluidic automation
  • Perform layout and simulation of lab-on-a-chip systems for environmental sensors
  • Execute laboratory experiments to validate the functionality and efficiency in real-world applications
  • Develop embedded firmware and control algorithms for microfluidic automation systems
  • Design and optimize PCB layouts for embedded systems used in lab-on-a-chip applications
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards for environmental sensors
  • Present and discuss your research findings at international conferences and with industry stakeholders

Requirements

  • A Master's or equivalent degree in engineering, embedded systems engineering, or a related field
  • A strong interest in interdisciplinary work, particularly at the interface of microfluidics and engineering
  • A creative, proactive, and team-oriented mindset
  • High proficiency in English, both written and spoken
  • Experience with CAD software (eg SolidWorks), simulation tools (eg Matlab) or PCB design software is a plus
