As a doctoral candidate in the group, you will have the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research on topics related to databases and data management in conjunction with artificial intelligence (AI). The group's main focus is on systems for AI and AI for systems. Your task will be to help overcome technical challenges by going beyond today's AI systems and defining new, forward-looking research approaches and their solutions. The specific research tasks lie in the areas of LLM for Databases/Data Engineering, Learned Database Components and Natural Interfaces for Databases.

Requirements

A very good academic university degree (Master's or equivalent) in computer science/databases is required. 

The applicants meet the following requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of machine learning and relational databases is required.
  • Prior experience in the following specific topics is advantageous: Table Representation Learning, Learned Data Cleaning, Learned Cardinality Estimation.
  • Practical experience in current programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C/C++ as well as technologies/frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Git, LATEX, SQL, React and Linux is also advantageous.

TU Dresden expect excellent, independent research and encourage its publication at international conferences and in leading scientific journals. Successful applicants also possess very good written and spoken English skills, a high level of commitment, and the ability to work collaboratively. Reliability, creativity, flexibility, and excellent communication skills, as well as a cooperative, independent, and goal-oriented work style, are required.
