The Bertha von Suttner Study Foundation promotes and supports undergraduate and graduate students of all disciplines at universities and universities of applied sciences, primarily in Germany. In addition to financial support, scholarship recipients receive comprehensive non-material support.

Benefits

  • The Bertha von Suttner Study Foundation currently awards scholarships of €300 per month. The standard funding period is two years.

  • The non-material support opens up many opportunities, especially for networking: with people who think and act humanistically; with students and doctoral candidates who deal with a wide variety of questions in a wide variety of subjects; and with scientists who critically reflect on their own research and its impact on society.

Requirements

The requirements for funding are

  • very good performance
  • (Upcoming) enrollment at a university 
  • social commitment
  • Identification with the values ??that the Bertha von Suttner Study Foundation stands for
  • Young people who are just about to start their studies or have already successfully completed their first semesters are just as welcome as those who are in the process of completing a doctorate and still need at least 12 months to finish.
  • Those who hold German citizenship and study abroad are eligible for funding, as are those who do not hold German citizenship and study in Germany.
  • German language skills at least at the C1 level are required.

Selection Process

  • Once the application has been received on time and in full, applicants will receive an acknowledgement of receipt. The scholarship office will then conduct an initial formal review. Suitable applicants will be forwarded to the next selection phase.
  • A selection committee – consisting of renowned scientists – then decides whether an applicant should be invited to an interview. During this interview, the applicants have the opportunity to impress the interviewer. Based on this, the committee members make a final assessment of each participant.

Application Documents

Required documents:

  • a letter of motivation explaining why the Bertha von Suttner Study Foundation is the right choice for the applicant and outlining fundamental ideas on the topics of humanism and worldview (no less than two and no more than three pages)
  • a tabular CV
  • Certificates (university entrance qualification, if applicable intermediate or final certificates from universities; if applicable, current grade overview)
  • Further documents at the discretion of the employer (e.g., proof of social engagement or a letter of recommendation tailored to the application from a teacher or professor)
