The position is based in the area of stochastic models in biology and biochemistry. The former focus on genealogical processes under various combinations of evolutionary forces such as mutation, selection, and recombination (until December 2026, they shall be worked on within Project C1 of CRC 1283); the latter refers to probability distributions of combinatorial structures, which are relevant for biological macromolecules (such as RNA secondary structures, for example).

Requirements
- completed scientific university degree (e. g. Master or equivalent) in mathematics, biomathematics, or mathematical statistical physics
- PhD in mathematics, biomathematics, or mathematical statistical physics
- solid knowledge in probability theory
- solid knowledge of spoken and written English
- independent, self-reliant and committed way of working
- ability to work in a team
