Benefits

  • The monthly grant is €1,000 and is limited to two years.
  • Travel and material cost subsidies may also be granted.

Requirements

  • Highly qualified doctoral candidates who are admitted to doctoral studies at a state-run or state-recognized German university.
  • A prerequisite is that the application includes a letter of recommendation from the supervising professor.

Selection Process

The submitted application is first checked to ensure it formally meets the requirements. If this is the case, and the preliminary review by the board is positive, the application is then reviewed by two experts in the field. Based on these expert opinions, the board formulates a recommendation for the board of trustees, which makes the final decision regarding the allocation of funding.

Application Documents

Applications for funding can be submitted informally in German, either in writing or electronically. A letter of recommendation from the supervising university professor must be included. The application itself should contain the following information and be no more than six pages long:

  • Applicant details including academic background with certificates
  • Scientific concept of the dissertation (problem description, state of research, objectives, work steps, timetable, expected results, added value of the results for the cooperative system and statements on the planned communication of the results) with an explanation of why the project corresponds to the foundation's purpose and how it fits into the topic of sustainability in the sense of the well-known "Sustainable Development Goals".
  • Financial plan, possibly broken down into material resources, travel expenses, etc.
  • A letter of support from a university lecturer
  • When applying for partial funding, please also provide the name and financial amount of other sponsors (In these cases, the Raiffeisen Foundation's approval of funding is generally subject to the condition that the overall financing is secured).
  • Information on the submission of the application or thematically related applications to other funding institutions (including rejected applications)
