PhD in Psychometrics and Quality of Life Quantification at the Universitätsmedizin Mannheim 2026

The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a PhD candidate in Psychometrics and Quality of Life Quantification, as soon as possible, with a 3-year fixed-term contract and the possibility of extension.

Your tasks:

• Implemeting modern test theory, i.e. item response theory, models to assess psychometric performance of existing tools
• (Co-) development of solutions for better measurement, i.e. more precise and/or better tailored to patient experience
• Close cooperation with ophthalmology researchers/physicians
• Regular reporting, data curation, data analysis an quality management
• Preparation of scientific publications and validation, collaboration on third-party funding applications

Requirements

• Completed degree (diploma, master's) in psychology, sociology or comparable training
• Knowledge of test theory, psychometrics and the respective software implementations 
• In-depth knowledge of scientific operations, including data collection, data management, and statistical analysis methods
• Very good written and spoken German and English language skills
• Dynamic, highly organized and creative personality, Proactive and independent work manner
