Mercedes-Benz Doctoral student in Telematics/Navigation 2025

The temporal and spatial analysis of anonymized position data from a vehicle fleet enables a wide range of analyses of the driving behavior of individual vehicles. In addition to overtaking and lane-changing behavior, the different traffic conditions in different lanes are to be analyzed and interpreted to determine whether and how lane-specific traffic services can be designed in different markets. The current Mercedes-Benz vehicle fleet increasingly also records, for example, the respective lane of a vehicle as a further attribute of the current vehicle position. This data serves as a starting point for the investigations.

  • These are the challenges you will face:
  • Introduction to the three-phase traffic theory
  • Temporal-spatial analysis of anonymized position data of a vehicle fleet
  • Analyses of the driving behavior of individual vehicles: overtaking and lane changing behavior
  • Models and methods for lane-related traffic phase-dependent transport services

The final topic will be selected in consultation with the university, you and us. The promotion can begin from October 2025.
