Benefits
- Scholarships will be awarded to the top-ranked applicants in April, after all interviews have been completed and the selection process is finalized.
- Scholarship recipients are exempt from paying any tuition / participation fees or any other mandatory costs related to their participation in the Erasmus Mundus course.
- The scholarship is a contribution to the costs incurred by the students and covers travel, visa, installation and subsistence costs.
- The scholarship is awarded for full-time enrolment, and covers the entire duration of the Master programme (24 months). This period covers all the activities needed by the enrolled scholarship holder to complete the study programme : study, research, placement activities, thesis preparation and defence, in line with the requirement of the joint Master.
- The scholarship amount is calculated (pro-rata of the actual number of days) as: 1 400 Euros/month
- It is calculated on the basis of a monthly unit cost for the entire period, EMJM scholarships can be offered to students from all over the world*.
- Students who have previously obtained an EMJM scholarship are not eligible to apply for an additional scholarship under the EMJM.

Requirements
- Candidates from all over the world can apply to the MemBioMed Erasmus Mundus Joint Master degree.
- All candidates should possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology or equivalent diploma in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics with advanced courses in cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, biophysics, biotechnology, bioengeneering, cell medical biology, pharmacology and statistics. Advanced laboratory and/or research is preferred.
- A Candidate who is currently enrolled in the last year of Bachelor at the time of application is allowed to apply, but final admission will only be effective if proof of graduation is provided before MemBioMed programme start, i.e. in July of the application year for the latest.
The whole MemBioMed programme is taught in English and English proficiency is therefore a basic requirement. All non-English native speakers must provide recent proof (maximum 2 years old) of their proficiency in English through at least one of the following documents:
- Proof of 2 years full-time studies minimum in English (certificate from the previous university or Medium of Instruction MOI)
- TOEFL iBT Certificate: minimum overall score of 93 (each component >22) - Other TOEFL versions are not accepted
- IELTS Certificate: minimum score of 6.5 (at least 6.0 in each module)
- Cambridge English Certificate : C2 Proficiency (CPE) or C1 Advanced (CAE) with a minimum overall score of 180 and no component below 176
Duolingo is not accepted.
Test reservation is not accepted, only official result is accepted.
Please note than oral English proficiency will also be taken into account during interviews of applicants in phase 3.
Selection Process
The selection and admission process will consist of three phases: eligibility check, preselection and interview. Scholarships will be assigned after the selection process. The MemBioMed Management Board (MMB) will assign the Selection and Examination Committee (SEC) including at least one representative of each of the three partner institutes.
1. Eligibilty Check
Eligibility check will be performed by the application platforms during and immediately after the closure of the Call for applications. At this stage, the fulfilment of the minimum requirements specified above will be verified.
2. Preselection
The selection process has been meticulously designed to ensure fairness and inclusivity, taking into account diverse backgrounds and experiences. Each eligible application will undergo a thorough evaluation, scored on a 100-point scale by three Local Academic Coordinators from distinct Full Partner Institutions. To maintain objectivity, any evaluator must disclose potential conflicts of interest before the assessment.
The joint selection criteria are as follows:
- Academic achievement and potential (Grades and ranking, relevance of the academic background; 40 points). Cut off set at 25 to continue the preselection process.
- Overall quality of the CV (practical skills, other relevant experiences; 30 points)
- The quality of the cover letter (clarity/motivation, adequacy with the programme ; 20 points)
- Recommendation letters (quality /academic, relevance ; 10 points)
The SEC shall review the final grading and comments, compile a ranking based on average scores.
The cut-off to qualify for the interview is set at 75.
Candidates reaching this score will be contacted by email and invited to the 3rd phase (interview)
Remaining candidates will be notified about the panel’s decision and alerted to the appeal procedure via email.
3. Interviews
Interviews will be conducted via video conferencing by at least three evaluators, each interview will last max 20 minutes, including a maximum 5-minute presentation.
During the interviews, candidates will be assessed on common criteria:
- Communication skills and language proficiency (30%)
- Motivation and alignment (30%)
- Academic and professional background (25%)
- Personality and interpersonal skills (15%)
After completion of the interviews, a meeting of the SEC will be held to draw up several lists :

- Reference letter : 1 recent academic recommendation letter (letter must be less than 1 year old, on official university or organization letterhead, dated and clearly state the relationship with the student, should provide specific exemples of the student’s skills and achievements, must include verifiable contact details of the referee, possibility to upload 2 or 3)
- Bachelor transcript : certified translation in english
- Certificate/ degree/ diploma : Along with translation in English. If the required diploma has not yet been issued, an official letter from the awarding institution will be required; A scan of an official 1st cycle degree diploma or other eligible diploma in Life Sciences, recognized by the EU as a 1st or 2nd cycle degree equivalent to at least 180 ECTS credits
