Marianne Plehn Programme for doctoral students at Bavarian universities

Doctoral scholarship holders of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation who are pursuing a doctorate at a Bavarian university or who intend to do so can apply for a quarter-time position within the framework of the Marianne Plehn Programme and use this position to settle at a state, church-affiliated or state-recognized Bavarian university of their choice.

Benefits

The Marianne Plehn Program offers funding for an additional quarter-time position at TVL E13 (TVL E13) and a supporting excellence program.

Requirements

  • Applicants must complete their doctorate at a Bavarian university.

Interview Dates and Process

Following a successful decision on acceptance for doctoral funding from the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, a special selection committee composed of university professors from various disciplines meets four times a year to decide on admission to the Marianne Plehn Program. A decision can generally be expected within four to six months of the application; in individual cases, the process may take longer or shorter.

2. from the applicant (max. 1 page): 

  • Description of the activities to be carried out within the framework of the position
  • Explanation of the expected benefits for the dissertation and further academic qualifications from the design of the position and the extent to which this represents added value compared to the existing framework/opportunities (e.g., compared to the current job situation, the previously possible integration into areas of activity at the chair, access to resources, etc.).
  • Justification for the choice of the academic environment (chair, institute, university, collaborations and networks, etc.) to which the position is to be linked

3. A tabular CV of max. 2 pages and an abstract of the doctoral project of max. 300 words

4. from the university lecturer (professorship or junior professorship, habilitation or junior research group leader) to whom the position is to be attached (max. 1 page):

  • Completed questionnaire from the university lecturer to whom the position is to be attached (PDF, 0.4 MB)
  • brief description of the tasks associated with the position
  • Reason why the scientific environment is particularly suitable for the location of the position
  • Explanation of how the applicant's dissertation project and qualification will benefit from the combination of the scholarship and the position, and how this represents added value compared to the existing framework/opportunities (e.g., compared to the current job situation, the previously possible integration into areas of activity at the chair, access to resources, etc.). 

5. Confirmation from the university of its willingness to host the requested position (PDF, 0.2 MB)
