We study the phylogeny, evolution, ecology, physiology and systematics of various angiosperm families (https://www.en.sysbot.bio.lmu.de/people/professors/kadereit/index.html) . A special focus lies on the evolution of C4 and CAM photosynthesis in eudicot plant groups, a research line integrates physiological, biochemical and anatomical traits with transcriptomics and phylogenomics, especially in succulent plant groups. We aim to understand the evolution of photosynthetic traits, investigating possible pre-adaptations, the biochemical mechanisms of CAM and C4, the role of hybridization, and the key gene tool-box.
