LMU PostDoc in CSS/ CCS

Starting on the 1st of April 2026, at the Department of Media and Communication, we are looking for a PostDoc in CSS/CCS. As a PostDoc, you will be part of the research unit on communication science with a focus on computational communication science under Prof. Dr. Mario Haim. The research unit is primarily concerned with the research, teaching, and application of computational methods, as well as general phenomena in communication science that require the use of such methods.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

As a PostDoc, you will work largely independently. You will bring enthusiasm for science and for current academic discourse on computational communication science (CCS) and computational social science (CSS). Together with the research unit, you will be committed to advancing active research and the field as a whole through active participation.

As part of your application, please submit a compelling cover letter including a (approximately one-page) concept of how your research interests could be aligned with the chair.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Teaching in the department’s degree programs (e. g., CSS, KW) to the extent of five SWS
  • Coordination of the CSS@LMU fellowships
  • Supervision of theses
  • Participation in the academic self-administration of the chair

Requirements

  • You have completed your doctorate in communication science or a related field. You have general programming skills (ideally in Python and/ or R) and experience in computational methods (e. g., automated content analysis, data donations) and in handling relevant data (e. g., large text corpora, social-media data, tracking data). Ideally, you also have a high level of intrinsic motivation for methods, very good English skills, proficiency in open science practices, and an interest in international and interdisciplinary collaboration.
