Requirements

  • Citizenship and Residency: Be from and reside in a developing or emerging country in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, or Latin America.
  • Academic Qualification: Hold a university degree and have relevant professional experience.
  • Level of Study: Plan to pursue postgraduate studies (Master's, PhD, or postdoctoral research) at a German university.
  • Religious Affiliation: Preference is given to Catholic Christians or other Christian denominations, though other religions may be considered with recommendations and commitment to interreligious dialogue.
  • German Language Proficiency: Basic German proficiency (B1 for German-taught, A2 for English-taught) is required, and language courses are available.
  • Commitment to Return: Have a clear plan to return and contribute to their home country.
  • Social and Religious Engagement: Demonstrate social engagement and willingness to participate in interreligious dialogue. 

Interview Dates and Process

The KAAD Scholarship selection process typically involves these stages: 

  1. Initial Application: Submission of an online application.
  2. Partner Committee Review: Evaluation by a local partner committee in the applicant's home country if the initial application is positive.
  3. Final Selection: The KAAD selection committee in Bonn makes the final decision.
