Julich Master Thesis - Modelling and Simulation of Cathode Materials for Solid-State Batteries 2025

The aim is to develop sustainable and cost-effective batteries and fuel cells with improved energy and power density, longer lifetime, and maximal safety. Find out more about our mission and future-oriented projects here: https://go.fzj.de/iet-1.

Your Tasks:

  • Development of a physical solid-state cathode model and simulation of cathode performance
  • Mathematical optimization of the model parameters using laboratory measurements
  • Preparation and assembly of battery test cells under inert conditions in a glove box
  • Conducting electrochemical measurements, including galvanostatic measurements, GITT, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)
  • Analyzing and evaluating experimental data using Matlab
  • Determining the OCV from the measured data
  • Measuring geometric electrode parameters such as thickness, particle radius, and porosity
  • Discussing the results, documenting the results, and summarizing the findings in a final report
