The University Hospital Heidelberg, Center of Integrative Infectious Disease (CIID) and Department of Clinical Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine in close cooperation with the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join an interdisciplinary research project focused on the development, optimization, and implementation of diagnostic tools for viral hepatitis.
The overarching goal of this project is to establish and advance a diagnostic infrastructure that supports and catalyzes the development of affordable, robust, and easy-to-use diagnostic tools for hepatitis viruses. A key focus lies in adapting and improving existing diagnostic assays to enhance their usability and applicability. This includes, but is not limited to, assay multiplexing, simplification of workflows, and adaptation to different specimen types. In close collaboration with industry partners and external stakeholders, the project aims to support the development of novel diagnostic. In addition, the infrastructure will facilitate the implementation of newly developed or existing diagnostic tests, with a strong focus on low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), while also addressing local diagnostic gaps in high-income settings.
