FZ Julich Microfluidics and Single-cell Analysis PhD Scholarship

Become part of the Microscale Bioengineering working group! We will tailor your individual research project to your technical expertise and personal interests.

  • Development and optimization of microfluidic cultivation platforms for co-cultures
  • Live-cell microscopy (including fluorescence, phase contrast and time-lapse) for the analysis of cell interactions.
  • Conducting cultivation experiments with cyanobacteria and Paramecium bursaria.
  • Image data analysis using AI-based tools and programming analysis scripts.
  • Participation in conferences, presentations, and preparation of publications.
  • Intensive exchange with our partners at CNRS and Michigan State University
  • Close collaboration with partner laboratories in the US and France (including laboratory stays)

Requirements

  • A Master`s degree in Bioengineering, Physics, Biotechnology, Microsystems Technology or a related field is required.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: microfluidics, microscopy, fermentation, phototropic organisms, cell culture and image analysis. Programming skills in Python and ImageJ are advantageous.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary and international teamwork.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
