Nanoscience and nanotechnology are at the forefront of modern research. The fast growing economy in this area requires experts who have an outstanding knowledge of nanoscience in combination with the skills to apply this knowledge in new products. A multidisciplinary scientific education is crucial to provide industry and research institutes with top quality experts who have a generic background in the different subdisciplines such as electronics, physics, chemistry, material science, biotechnology, and at the same time be experts in one particular field. This is what is offered in this master programme.
In the Master of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, you will learn the basics of physics, biology, and chemistry on the nanometer scale, supplemented by courses on technology and engineering to promote an understanding of practical applications. Moreover in the program you will also be able to specialize in a certain area of nanoscience. The combination of a solid multidisciplinary scientific basis and an individual high level specialization in a certain area of Nanoscience (second year) is the philosophy of the EMM-Nano+ program.

Requirements
- Admitted are top-level Bachelor students in physics, applied physics, chemistry, biochemistry, electrical engineering, material science or a related discipline, with a proven background in mathematics and physics or chemistry. Students in their last year of such a bachelor programme will also be considered.
- A minimum of 180 credits (equivalent to the ECTS credit system, i.e. corresponding to a minimum of 3 years of bachelor study) and a GPA (Grade Point Average) of at least 75% of the scale maximum is required.
- A good command of English, applicants enrolling for the first time at KULeuven prove their English language proficiency by means of an IELTS or TOEFL test. The minimum score required for IELTS is 7 (with no subscore under 6.5), for the TOEFL internet-based test it is 94 (with no subscore under 22). Applicants with a university degree or high school degree earned in Australia, English-speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom or the USA are exempted from this requirement: the degree and transcripts suffice, provided they confirm that the entire study was completed in English.
- Do arrange a date for your language test well ahead of your application and submit the successful results of your English test together with your application!

- Applicants background: applicants are asked to provide the list of courses they followed during their previous education. If needed it is recommended to provide also additional information (content of the courses, course credits, etc.) on the courses they have taken during their previous studies, especially in the fields of applied mathematics, electromagnetics, physics, chemistry, electronics, materials science etc. The applicants will be scored based on the depth and broadness of their background;
- Applicants excellence: applicants are asked to provide information on the obtained grades/marks for the individual courses and the GPA of their previous education, and an explanation of the score system that was applied. The applicants will be scored based on the obtained scores and GPA.
- English language skills: applicants are asked to provide the certified results of their language proficiency test (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.). The applicants will be scored based on the obtained language test score). The language test is COMPULSORY! All applicants who have not obtained a previous diploma in a programme taught in English in Australia, English-speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States of America must submit a certificate proving their proficiency in English.
- Motivation statement and reference: applicants are asked to provide a personally written motivation letter and two recommendation letters (see template) from persons who are very well acquainted with their academic performance.. The applicants will be scored on the quality of the motivation and recommendation letters and on the completeness of the application file.
