Selection Process
-
These prestigious scholarships are awarded to the 10–15 highest-ranking applicants in accordance with the general Selection Criteria. The Selection Committee conducts the primary assessment, and the Head of the Programme’s Advisory Board provides an additional layer of fairness and quality assurance when reviewing the strongest applications shortlisted for scholarship consideration.
To guide applicants, the Selection Committee evaluates each candidate against the following criteria:
-
Academic background
- This includes your academic documents, transcript of records, academic reference, and any awards or distinctions. It demonstrates your readiness for advanced interdisciplinary study.
-
Journalism experience
-
Professional experience in journalism, media, or communications is considered. The Selection Committee assesses the relevance, quality, and trajectory of your work, including the journalistic reference, to gauge your potential to contribute to and benefit from an international journalism programme. As part of this assessment, applicants are expected to demonstrate at least three months of journalistic experience or its equivalent.
-
Application reflections
- Within the Application Form you will find a section called Application reflections. The Application Reflections section allows you to demonstrate your critical thinking, motivation, and clarity of expression. This helps the Committee understand your potential to thrive in an international and interdisciplinary learning environment.
- Please do not use AI tools to complete your reflection tasks. We genuinely want to hear your own voice and authentic reflections. Submitting AI-generated content will weaken your application, as we value originality and your personal perspective.
Application Documents
1. Application Form
- Download and complete the Erasmus Mundus Journalism Application Form (PDF). The application form should be the first document within your application package.
- The application form will give the Consortium's Selection Committee an overview of your personal, academic, and journalistic background, as well as your motivational reflections, before they review all your supporting documents.
2. Curriculum Vitae
- Please provide us with a Curriculum Vitae (CV). The CV should be no more than 2 pages.
- A CV (or résumé in the US) is a concise summary of your skills, achievements, and interests both inside and outside your academic work.
- List your experience and key dates, including educational achievements, work experience, prizes, awards, involvement in societies, sports, clubs, and your other interests and skills (e.g. languages and IT skills). Civic engagement and extracurricular activities are important parts of the evaluation process.
- If you want inspiration, please check Europass CV.
3. Academic documents
- Please include official graduation certificates (if already graduated) and transcripts of records from all your previous university/college studies. The transcripts should provide full details of the degree class and the grades you received in each unit or module.
- To ensure that the best candidates are admitted, the consortium has decided to give priority to academic merit, hence, a minimum of an above-average class mark/GPA is expected.
- All transcripts or academic records must be official documents provided in the original language. If these documents are not in English, they must be accompanied by translations into English. Diplomas/certificates and transcripts must always be translated into English and certified by either your home institution or a certified translator.
4. Journalistic documents
- Proof of experience
- In order to provide proof of your work as a professional journalist, your current or previous employer must supply a signed document stating the employment period. This information can also be included within the journalistic reference letter.
- Work samples
- Please submit three articles or other samples of your journalistic work, preferably in English. You can include links instead if your work is available online. Do not submit more than three articles or equivalent.
- If your samples are not in English, please include a short English summary (you are welcome to make that summary yourself).
- If your journalistic work samples cannot be included in a PDF file (e.g. radio or TV samples), please include detailed information about your samples and links if possible. If needed, the Mundus Consortium may ask you to forward these samples by postal mail.
5. Language documents
- All applicants must demonstrate a high level of English proficiency equivalent to CEFR level C1 or above, regardless of their chosen specialisation track, unless they are considered native English speakers by the Year 2 specialisation university. Applications that do not meet this requirement cannot be considered for admission or for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
- You must include a copy of your English language test as part of your application package. In the Online Registration form, you are required to enter your unique test verification code, which allows us to confirm the authenticity of your results directly with the test centre.
