Technical University of Munich PhD Scholarship in Electric Drive Technology 2026

The Chair of Sustainable Mobile Drive Systems (NMA) at the Technical University of Munich, located at Schragenhofstr. 31, 80992 Munich, is seeking a PhD student (m/f/d) in the field of electric drives to start as soon as possible.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Development of a high-performance electric drive system
  • Design and construction of the electric machine (electromagnetics, mechanics, thermals)
  • Development, construction and operation of a test bench system
  • Prototype realization including development of manufacturing processes
  • Testing of the electric drive
  • Project management of the research project
  • Support for teaching in the field of electric drives

Requirements

  • Above-average university degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or mechatronics
  • Good knowledge of how electric drives (electric motor, inverter) work
  • Experience in modeling/simulation/design of electrical machines
  • Experience in test bench technology and the measurement of electric drives is advantageous
  • Prior practical experience in manufacturing technology and technology development is an advantage
  • Independent and cooperative work style
  • Fluent in German, both spoken and written
  • Good English skills, both spoken and written
