The Chair of Model Reduction in Control Engineering is seeking to fill two doctoral positions (m/f/d). Both positions focus on fundamental advancements in model reduction methods for industrially relevant processes. One position, within a sub-project of Transregio 287, addresses model reduction for energy and process engineering processes primarily described by reaction-diffusion equations. The second position, in collaboration with an industrial consortium, focuses on hydraulic turbomachinery, for whose modeling the Navier-Stokes equations are central. Both projects build upon the Chair's long-standing work and offer the opportunity to work in a small team of colleagues specializing in model reduction methods. Both projects include the opportunity to publish at national and international conferences and in international journals, providing ideal preparation for a doctoral dissertation.
Your tasks:
- Further development of methods for model reduction of distributed-parameter systems with a focus on the generation of real-time capable reduced models
- Combination of classical projection-based approaches and approaches from machine learning, including for the interpolation of reduced models
- Implementation of observers (linear and nonlinear Kalman filters, AI-based soft sensors) and controllers based on reduced models
- Integration of reduced models into design and simulation methods for hydraulic, energy or process engineering processes
