The work is to be conducted within the framework of the DFG-supported project “Simulation of Rare and Transient Events in Rarefied Gas Dynamics” and the research agenda is focused on the development of novel algorithms within the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo Method (DSMC) to improve aforementioned simulations. These algorithms include particle-particle and particle-surface interactions, particle merging, and sensitivity analysis methods for stochastic particle-based simulations. Practical applications of the research topic include engineering problems in areas of micro-electromechanical systems, aerospace engineering, and semi-conductor manufacturing.
