2026 PhD Scholarship in the Field of Molecular Virology at Heidelberg University

A PhD position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Viet Loan Dao Thi at the Center of Integrative Infectious Disease (CIID) in Heidelberg, Germany. The CIID is affiliated with the University Hospital Heidelberg and embedded in the outstanding campus environment of Heidelberg University, one of the largest biomedical research hubs in Europe. Our lab uses stem cell technology to study hepatitis E virus (HEV) life cycle and HEV-host interaction. For more details, please visit our website daothilab.com.

The successful applicant will setup an intestinal organoid screening and evaluation platform for enteric viruses, including HEV. Ideally, the applicant should have experience in organoid culture and high-content imaging microscopy.

Your tasks:

• Cell culture (including organoids and stem cells) and virus infection in BSL2
• High-content microscopy and imaging analysis
• Data analysis and presentation

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Biomedical or Molecular Sciences, Biochemistry, Biology or related fields
• Experience in organoid culture and/or high-content imaging
• At least intermediate (B2 level or higher) knowledge of English (written and oral)
• Highly motivated, interactive, and team-oriented
