2026 JLU Doctoral Student Scholarship in the field of Redox Biology and Malaria Parasite Genetics

The position is part of an externally funded DFG project and is limited until 31.12.2028 at the Professorship of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Department of Nutritional Science at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences and Environmental Management, in collaboration with Prof. Marcel Deponte (University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern- Landau). The salary is in accordance with the collective labour agreement of the State of Hessen (E 13 TV-H).

Malaria, caused by Plasmodium species, continues to pose a significant threat to global health. Redox processes are essential for parasite survival and adaptation within the host environment. This project will use a reverse genetic approach to functionally characterize genes involved in redox regulation in Plasmodium falciparum. Techniques include CRISPR-Cas9-mediated genome editing, conditional gene expression systems, and various phenotypic and biochemical assays. This collaborative project combines the molecular parasitology expertise of AG Przyborski with Dr. Deponte's long-standing work on redox biology, offering a unique interdisciplinary training environment.
