Leuphana University Lüneburg supports the professional development of outstanding researchers in their doctoral studies. To fund their own research projects, a doctoral scholarship for "AI for Inclusive, Personalized and Adaptive English as a Foreign Language Teaching and Learning" is being offered in the Faculty of Education (Doctoral College for Empirical Educational Research).

• The doctoral scholarship amounts to €1,650 per month, plus a research allowance of €100 per month .
• A family allowance and child allowance may be granted upon application.

Requirements

• A very good Master's degree in English language teaching methodology (teacher training), Instructed Second Language Acquisition, Educational Technology, Educational Informatics, Human-Computer Interaction or a comparable field relevant to the topics to be addressed.
• Prior knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence, especially large language models and chatbots.
• Prior knowledge in the field of Learning Analytics
• Initial experience in empirical research (quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods)
• Excellent German and English skills, both spoken and written.
• Independent, structured work style as well as teamwork and communication skills
• Willingness to participate in English and German-language scientific discourses

Selection Process

The selection for the scholarship is based on the submitted application documents, whereby, for example, the following criteria are used to assess professional excellence:

• above-average performance in the subjects or modules relevant to the doctoral topic or in the final theses
• a swift course of study
• the biographical background
• first publications, participation in specialist events or science-related training courses (conferences/workshops)

Application Documents

The application should generally include the following documents, which must also be uploaded to the portal:

• A meaningful exposé of the dissertation project (max. 5 pages plus bibliography)
• CV including a description of your academic record and previous research activities
• Certificates relevant to the proof of previous scientific qualifications, usually from a Master's degree (German or English; in the case of other languages, officially certified translations)
• If already available, notification of admission to doctoral studies at the Faculty of Education
