This specific subproject investigates innovative cognitive mechanisms that can complement and improve extinction-based therapies for anxiety disorders. Clinical and experimental approaches are combined to better understand the interplay of mental imagery, exposure, and cognitive reappraisal. In parallel, psychophysiological processes (including heart rate variability) and stress-related markers (including cortisol) are being assessed. In collaboration with the University of Göttingen, both a randomized controlled trial and an experimental laboratory study will be conducted within the framework of this subproject.
